Day 5 - 9: London, UK

(Wed 25/04/07 - Sun 29/04/07)

This was a lovely 500 year old pub that was our first stop on the ‘country London’ road trip. I’m not sure between Pop, Marion, Mel and Cam who was the Dog and who was the Pheasant.

We stayed at a fantastic B&B cottage which had award-winning gardens for their year-round colour. The wife ran the B&B and the husband was a beekeeper, who was extracting the honey from the comb the night we stayed there.

This friendly fellow started off a lot further away from the car when we stopped for the photo… but as soon as he saw his kin (Bill), he came straight over to say hello.

As we drove into this small village (near the New Forest), we were astonished to find so many luxury car dealerships, which included Ferrari and Masserati. We assumed it must be some sort of ‘well-to-do’ holiday home region where the locals may shop for Ferraris on their weekends!

We highly recommend the London Eye as a first stop for anyone about to do a day trip around London town – it really helped us to get our bearings e.g. Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace.

Our main memory of Buckingham Palace was the jostling with the crowds all straining for a glimpse of the Changing of the Guards. The police were quite funny in the way they constantly took the piss from the tourists eg “that’s roit keep movin’, one foot after the udder” – that’s my poor attempt at typing in a proper English accent.

We got half-price tickets for our West End Show from Leicester Square TKTS booth and saw a matinee of Chicago with Tina Arena as Roxy Hart. The theatre was very similar to His Majesty’s except twice as large.
The Tower of London is deceptively small on the outside as it has huge grounds on the inside. We had a great tour with a costumed guide from a museum society who had plenty of tales of royalty and treason. We saved at least a 1 hour wait for the Crown Jewels alone by arriving early in time for the first tour.

This is Cam meeting John Howard... at Madame Tussands. We had a fun time due to the very large crowd all having fun as well, lots of posing and photos with all the wax celebrities.

Camden Road Markets is a wild mix of clothes and cafes – Punk boots to Wellington boots, lots of funny shirts – here is one in honour of the upcoming Transformers movie (just for you Vu ;P).
